Framed Print of Mexican American War. Battle of Monterey, Sept. 21-23, 1846
Mexican American War. Battle of Monterey, Sept. 21-23, 1846. Mexican General Pedro Ampudia requests cessation of fighting, his armys evacuation from the city, and an 8-week armistice. Gen. Zachery Taylor agreed because he was low on provisions and ammunition. It took three weeks for President James Polk to receive this news, and another three weeks for his demand for the armistices end to reach Gen. Taylor. After this. Polk lost confidence in his too-peaceful general and moved the wars action to an invasion of central Mexico at Vera Cruz commanded by Winfield Scott (BSLOC_2019_8_18).
