HAGAR IN THE WILDERNESS, by Camille Corot, 1835, French painting, oil on canvas. This painting was Corots first critical success when exhibited in the Paris Salon of 1835. Because of family jealousy and exile, Hagar, Sarahs handmaiden, and her child Ishmael, were dying of thirst in the desert until saved by an angel. Elements of the landscape were based on Corot nature studies (BSLOC_2017_9_86). © https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
