Framed Print of THE FEAST OF ACHELOUS, by Peter Paul Rubens, Flemish painting, oil on wood
THE FEAST OF ACHELOUS, by Peter Paul Rubens, Flemish painting, oil on wood. This is the work of two great artists: Rubens designed and painted the figure groups and Jan Brueghel the Elder painted everything else. The scene shows the river god Achelous telling Greek hero, Theseus, that a distant island is his former lover Perimele. She was transformed into an island by Neptune, after her father pushed her off a cliff into the sea when he discovered her secret liaison with Achelous. There is rich detail of nature, manmade vessels, and prepared food (BSLOC_2017_14_110). © https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
