US Civil War. Battle of Gettysburg, Pickets Charge, July 3, 1863. THE HIGH TIDE AT GETTYSBURG, by Charles Stanley Reinhart, 1896. Confederate soldiers plant their flags at the center of the Union battle line, overwhelming its defenders during Pickets Charge. The breech at the angle was soon filled with Union reinforcements, repulsing the assault, and ending Confederate hopes of a war winning strategic victory. The soldiers were from one of Gen. George Picketts division, commanded by General Lewis Addison Armistead, who was killed in the battle (BSLOC_2018_9_28).
