US Civil War. Battle of Forts Jackson and St. Philip, April 1862. The deck of one of twenty of Admiral David Porters schooners carries a 17, 000 pound mortar. Six days prior to the Union Fleets passage by the forts on April 24, they were bombarded with two rounds every minute during daylight hours. On the first day, nearly 3, 000 shells were fired from distances between 2, 800 and 4, 500 yards. The forts were not reduced to rubble, but they were damaged and their garrisons were shocked. Among the crew is an African American teenager (BSLOC_2018_8_83).

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
